Hyperflo

Development of a quiet and efficient Mining fan

Located in Rouyn-Noranda (QC), Hyperflo is a manufacturer of fans and distributor of pumps adapted to industrial and mining applications. The objective of the project carried out with Optis is to develop a new generation of efficient and silent fans specially designed for the underground mining sector. Knowing that ventilation can account for up to 50% of a mine’s energy consumption, Hyperflo promises to make mining operations cleaner and more efficient.

As part of this project, Optis has the mandate to achieve the following tasks:
  • Based on performance requirements, define the overall geometry of the fan and associated operating conditions;
  • Provide preliminary geometries for all elements exposed to the flow path (nose cone, rotor and stator blades, diffuser, etc.);
  • Mechanical design of the fan elements (hub, blades, shaft, bearings);
  • Support to experimental tests to evaluate efficiency and fan capabilities;
  • Processing of experimental data and design improvement based on experimental validation;
  • Deployment of interactive fan maps to facilitate field operations, improve efficiency and prevent fan stall.
During this project, Optis worked alongside the customer and project partners to bring this project to fruition.
